JULY 22-23 - Skidmore College - Saratoga Springs, NY
THE PRESENTER AS CURATOR
As public funding shrinks, foundation grants become more competitive and corporate support nearly disappears, performing arts presenters are depending more and more on ticket sales to balance their budgets. In survival mode, many presenters have let their organization's mission and artistic heart go by the wayside as they fill their seasons with mainstream box office attractions.
The New York State Presenters Network in conjunction with NYSCA's Presenting Program invites you to its Summer Symposium in Saratoga Springs where presenters, performing artists and funders from across the state will gather to focus on the role of the presenter as curator of their performing arts seasons - and help identify the resources to achieve success.
Panel discussions with representatives of performing arts centers - large and small - urban, suburban and rural - along with artists, funders, and arts professionals will engage presenters in an interactive dialogue about programming creatively, utilizing regional resources, and developing audiences at the grass roots level for innovative programming. An evening Showcase and Reception features a diverse roster of New York State performing artists and an opportunity for presenters and artists to informally mingle.
So whether you book a summer folk series in the mountains, a multi-disciplinary performing arts center in the city, a chamber music series at your local library or a dance and theatre series at a suburban university, make your plans to escape to the beautiful city of Saratoga Springs and join your fellow presenters as we work together to secure New York's reputation as "The State of the Arts." Accommodations and meal packages are available!
